On October 20th, we reached a major milestone—our 1st Anniversary, or as we like to call it, our “Birthday.” It’s amazing to think that a whole year has gone by, filled with countless memories and lessons. The journey has had its ups and downs, with sleepless nights, early mornings, and long days. But despite the challenges, we’ve embraced every moment, meeting new friends, gaining fresh insights, and continuously learning and growing.
In August 2023, Sweet Comfort Creations was brought to life by an unexpected but joyful event. Our founder, William Heichman, won a local church baking contest with his family-inspired peach cobbler—a dessert known for its distinctive "buttery", cookie-like crust. This victory sparked William’s passion, paving the way for the official launch of Sweet Comfort Creations two months later, with a soft debut during the holiday season.
For those new to our peach cobbler’s story, its origins are deeply rooted in William’s family. After the loss of his mother 15 years ago, her absence, along with that of his grandmother and Sister Dede, left a lasting impact. In an effort to preserve the flavors of his past, William reached out to his sister, who shared a recipe once crafted by their late sister and grandmother. With some personal touches, William refined it into the peach cobbler that captured the hearts of family, friends, and eventually, customers.
Launching Sweet Comfort Creations was a leap of faith. With no prior experience in the food industry, William relied on his cherished cobbler recipe, unwavering dedication, and a belief that this family-inspired dessert could bring joy to others. The journey has been one of excitement, uncertainty, and fulfillment, and William has embraced it wholeheartedly.
To further develop Sweet Comfort Creations, William participated in Incubation Cohort 5 at The Hatchery Chicago. This six-month program is designed to turn business ideas into reality through Lean Startup methodologies and a supportive community. William also received coaching from the A4BC (Allies for Business Community) to refine his business plan, training from the ICNC (Industrial Council of Northwest Chicago), and support from Ingredion to stabilize his recipe. Today, we are proud to offer our signature peach cobbler, as well as apple cobblers and gluten-free options. This is just the beginning! 🎉 We’re thrilled to share that our menu has been approved for production in a commercial kitchen—a significant milestone that sets the stage for our next chapter.
Thank you for being a part of our journey. We look forward to creating more sweet memories together!
